27413. (souvenir bowl) c.1900. Most unusual piece measures a full 10 ½” in diameter by 3” high, and features a lovely large hand painted image of Cape Cod’s Highland Light House, North Truro, Mass. This early piece is quite distinctive and the largest that I have ever had. It is enhanced by a hand painted rose floral decoration with a gilt decorated on light green rim. Marked “Wheelock Made in Vienna, Austria for I. Morton Small, North Truro, Mass. Clean, bright, no chips or cracks, as nice as we have yet had. An unusually bright, bold piece for display and an exceptionally rare form. (F-). $865.
28107b. (commemorative dish) A striking, bright commemorative dish featuring a beautiful clear, detailed b/w image of the “Highland Light [House] Cape Cod , Mass.” c. 1900. This dish quite striking, with a bold, detailed image of the tall masonry light tower with the two keeper dwellings to each side as a horse and buggy with driver waits in front. This pretty dish measures 5 5/8” in diameter and is quite bold with the large image on the bright white body and gilt-decorated turned up sides. Marked “Made in Germany for J. Morton Small, Highlands, No. Truro, Mass.”. A very attractive piece. Clean, bright, no wear. (F-). $185 net.

This early set is quite large and enhanced by a gilt borders and handle decoration. Bold cup likewise features a detailed b/w image of a “Life Saving Station, Wellfleet, Mass”. Attractive saucer likewise features a detailed b/w image of the “Wharf Scene, Wellfleet, Mass.” The cup measures 2 ¼ ” high by 2 ¼” in diameter. Saucer measures 4 7/8” in diameter. Superb bright white souvenir plate, featuring a close and detailed image of “Nobska Light Woods Hole, Falmouth Mass. ” Dish features a good size, detailed color image of the tall white iron light tower and keeper’s dwelling, surrounded by a decorative rim enhanced by gilt borders. Marked “Made in Germany for Harry S. Bourne, Falmouth, Mass.” This rare collectible measures 3 ½” by 5 ” oval and would enhance any display. Unusually bright, clean, a beautiful piece. 932c. (commemorative vase) c.1900. Petite cobalt blue vase, featuring a detailed full color image of “Boon Island Light [house, York], Maine.” This unusual piece features a large though a bit distant, color image of the tall granite light tower, boathouse and keeper’s dwellings. The present lighthouse was constructed between 1852 and 1854, along with a new keeper’s dwelling. The stone tower is 133 feet high -- the tallest lighthouse in New England. The vase is a striking cobalt blue color, with gilt decoration around the fluted border. Backmarked “Wheelock Made in Germany for K. Tsuboyama, York Beach, Me.” Piece measures 2 ¾” in diameter by 2 ¼” high and would enhance any display. Bright, clean, a beautiful piece. (VG+). $88 net.

(commemorative plate) Ship “County of Edinburgh”
Ashore at Point Pleasant, NJ. c.1900.
Rare shipwreck souvenir china piece features a large, beautiful clear, detailed
image of the ship “County of Edinburgh” ashore. The British ship County of
Edinburgh went ashore in a dense fog at about 10 o'clock at night on February
13, 1900 close to Manasquan Life Saving Station, on the Jersey coast, near Point
Pleasant. The vessel drove on hard and fast and the life-saving crew deemed it
best to remove the crew. Word was sent to the men at the Point Pleasant station,
who hurried to aid the Manasquan crew. As it was impossible to launch the
surfboat, a breeches buoy line was soon rigged and the crew removed. The superb,
bright, floral decorated plate is quite rare and is one of the most attractive
that I have had. This pretty display piece measures 8 3/8” in diameter and is
enhanced by a decorative flowered border around the edge. Back marked
“Wheelock China Made in Austria Vienna for Point Pleasant Hdwr. Co.,
Point Pleasant, N. J. Clean and bright, no cracks or chips, fine large detailed
image. A fine display piece. (VG+). $245 net.
27473. (souvenir plate) Lovely large gilt decorated plate featuring a large, detailed image of Southern Island Lighthouse, Tenants Harbor, Maine c.1900. The 27-foot-tall round brick tower, attached to a wood-frame dwelling, was built in 1854 and originally held a revolving fourth-order Fresnel lens exhibiting a red flash visible for 13 nautical miles. 1854. Plate is striking in its unusual coloration and is in pristine condition. Enhanced by a lovely gilt border. Marked “Made in Germany for W. E. Sheerer, Tenants Harbor, Me.” (F-). $224.
2854. (commemorative spoon) c.1900. Beautiful petite commemorative spoon bears a nicely detailed engraved image of the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse, East Providence, Rhode Island. The spoon features a nicely detailed image of the Pomham Rocks Lighthouse on a the gold washed spoon. The lighthouse is located on a large rock on the east side of the Providence River. The square, two-story wood-framed keeper’s residence was built in 1871, featuring a mansard roof with the tower and lantern rising from the center front of the house. The spoon measures 4” long and is in marvelous overall condition for its age. Marked “Sterling”. Nicely detailed little commemorative piece and an extremely rare and desirable location, commemorating this remarkable example of its type. (F-). $48 net.

Measures 6 ¾” x 9 ½” and with a 5/8” raised edge enhanced by a petite, though slightly worn, decorative gilt border. Marked “Made in Germany.” Very little if any wear except for gilding around edge. The attractive detailed image includes a good look at the rare Jersey-Pattern Type station with the crew standing beside the surfboat on the station ramp. [commemorative plate] An exceptionally rare, bright, gilt decorated and edged
commemorative plate featuring a beautiful clear, detailed color image of the “U.
S. Lighthouse, Newport, Oregon.” c. 1900. One of only a few of this
light that I have had, this fairly large plate has a large 3 ½” full color
image of the tall masonry light tower beside the 2-story keeper’s dwelling,
barn and out-buildings. This detailed image shows the light tower and buildings
the ocean in the background. This pretty display piece measures 7 ½” in
diameter and is enhanced by a decorative gilded and rose decorated edge. Nice
bright, detailed image reminds one of a painting. Marked “Wheelock Made in

2801. (commemorative spoon) c. 1900. Beautiful, bold, silver spoon bears an engraved image of “The [Coquile River] Light House, Bandon, Oregon.” on the dish. This finely detailed piece shows the tall 1891 masonry light tower with attached fog signal building. The 5 ¼” inch spoon boasts a heavy molded handle with Oregon seal and spruce tree. Marked “sterling”. This is one of the nicer pieces, a beautiful, finely detailed commemorative piece and a most rare item for the lighthouse spoon collector. (VG+). $74 net.

[paperweight] Grace Darling Commemorative paperweight
c.1900. Heavy glass rectangular paperweight featuring an early
engraved image of British Heroine Grace Darling. The daughter of a lighthouse
keeper, Darling grew up on Longstone in the Farne
Islands. Grace become the focus of national attention after the steamship
Forfarshire sank during a severe storm in September 1838. Nine people managed to
find refuge on nearby rocks, and Darling and her father battled rough water to
row to their rescue. The incident inspired numerous poems, paintings, and songs
and made Darling a virtual cult figure. This rare item features a detailed early
image of the lovely heroine, with a lengthy description printed on the bottom by
The Shipwrecked Fisherman and Mariners Royal Benevolent Society. This may have
been given in receipt for donations to the society. Very nice condition, clean,
measures 2 ¾” x 4 ¼” x ¾” h. A most attractive commemorative

Horn on Piers, Life Saving Service Crew, Outer Harbor, Michigan City, Indiana.
This rare item features a detailed early photograph of the two lighthouses on
the piers as the life-saving crew maneuvers their surfboat out of the harbor.
Photo remains clear and sharp, but with some darkening or foxing. Overall in
good condition, light wear. Unusually large size 4” x 7 3/8” x 1
1/8” h. One of the few such items of this desirable location that I have had.

featuring a beautiful, detailed color image of the “Tawas
Point Lighthouse, Tawas City, Michigan.” This bright, intricately
decorated cup measures 2 ¼” high by 3” diameter, and is enhanced by a
decorative gilt trim and creme colored cup body. Very clean, no cracks or
checks, some wear to gilt trim. A pretty little item for your display of a

Cohasset, Mass. c.1900. A striking creamer is decorated in a bright
rose pattern, and bears a large full color image of the tall masonry lighthouse
perched on the rocks off Cohasset, Mass. The unusually detailed image includes
all aspects of the unusual light tower, with the wood lifeboat hanging from the
tower davits. This superb piece is enhanced by a beautiful decorative gilt
decoration and trim around the image and along the rims and borders. The creamer
measures 4 ¼” high. Marked “Made in Germany for M. G. Seaverns & Co,
North Scituate, Mass.” Very clean, no cracks or checks, bright and bold. . A

(commemorative toothpick) c.1900. Exquisite bright, detailed toothpick holder
features a detailed b/w image of “Plum Island
Light” House, Newburyport, Mass. Holder measures 2 ¼” high by
2” in diameter, with fluited rim and provides a striking contrast to the large
detailed image. In 1838 the original twin octagonal lighthouses on this spot
were replaced by a new pair of octagonal towers built on moveable foundations.
In 1856 one of the lighthouses was destroyed by fire and it was decided not to
rebuild. The surviving lighthouse received a fourth order Fresnel lens and

sugar bowl in bright crème, featuring a large b/w image of the Nauset
‘Three Sisters’ Lights in Eastham, Mass. on one side, and the
“French Cable Station” on the reverse. Quite rare and distinctive, the piece
measures a full 4 ½” tall by nearly 5 ½” in diameter and is enhanced
by decorative gilt border around the base and the rim and cover. The nice bright
images are shown quite close, and are beautifully done in superb detail. Marked

Victorian letter holder features a beautiful b/w lithograph image of the “Grindle
Point Light House, Isleboro, Me.” A pretty little piece meant to
hand on the wall to hold letter mail is of hardwood, varnished and measures 5 ½”
high x 5” wide. The pretty image shows the tall square masonry light
tower, keeper’s dwelling and fog signal bell perched on the rock shore. Such
wooden Victorian era commemorative pieces, known as Mauchlineware, are
exceptionally difficult to find and are beautiful for display. Clean, some light

detailed raised relief image of the Tillamook Rock
Lighthouse, Astoria, Oregon. The spoon features a highly-detailed
image of the lighthouse perched high upon Tillamook Rock. The spoon measures 5
1/8” long and is in marvelous overall condition for its age. Marked
“Copyrighted Sterling”. Nicely detailed little commemorative piece and an
extremely rare and desirable location, commemorating this important station.

[paperweight] Commemorative paperweight c.1900. Heavy glass rectangular
paperweight featuring an early c.1900 photograph of Bishop
and Clerk Light House, Hyannis, Mass. This rare item features a close
photograph of the unusual offshore masonry light tower with attached fog bell
tower as a visitor lands by sailboat. Built in the 1850’s, the lighthouse was
a dramatic 65-foot tower standing in open water. It was fitted with a
fourth-order Fresnel lens, with an automatic fog bell, operated by a clockwork

b/w image of Evans, The Only Survivor From The Ship
Jason. It was on the dreaded Peaked Hill Bars that the terrible ocean
tragedy, the wreck of the ship Jason, occurred in a furious winter storm on
December 5, 1893. The wreck of the Jason was one of the most appalling disasters
that has ever taken place on the shores of Cape Cod, twenty-six lives being
lost. Of the whole crew, Evans, the ship’s apprentice, was the only person
that managed to reach the shore. Butter pat features a large image of seaman
Evans in his cork life jacket, standing on the Cape Cod beach. Marked “Made in
Germany for O. E. Kelley, Dennisport, Mass.” Dish measures 3 ½” in diameter
and is enhanced by a decorative gilded rim. This is a wonderful, early
commemorative piece and is one of the few Jason shipwreck pieces that I have

Prominent Nobska Point was an ideal place for a lighthouse and in 1828 the first
lighthouse was built. Butter pat features a large b/w image of the later iron
light tower with keeper’s dwelling behind. Today, the charming Victorian
dwelling is home to Commander of U.S. Coast Guard Group Woods Hole. Marked
“Made in Germany for S. I. Snow, Woods Hole, Mass.” Dish measures 3 ½” in
diameter and is enhanced by a decorative gilded rim. This is a wonderful,
early commemorative piece and is one of the few Nobska lighthouse pieces that I

keeper’s dwelling. Erected in 1892, the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse served
as a beacon of safety in the Straits for more than 60 years. The castle-like
structure, whose design is unique in the Great Lakes, has today been restored to

Desert Rock Light Station, Maine c.1900. Superb bright decorated
souvenir plate, featuring a close and detailed image of the Mount Desert Rock
Lighthouse , perched over 20 miles from the nearest port at Mount Desert Island.
The tiny rock is only about 17 feet above sea level at its highest point and
waves mercilessly batter the station. The 58-foot granite tower was built in
1847. The present keeper's dwelling is the third and was built in 1893. Plate
features a large, detailed full color image of the large granite tower and
attached dwelling on the wave-swept rock. Back marked “Made in Germany.”
This large collectible measures 6 ¼” in diameter and would enhance any

Coat Harbor, a light station was established on the promontory called Hockamock
Head in 1872. Two towers were erected to serve as range lights. In 1884, after
numerous complaints that the range lights were confusing, the front light was
discontinued, leaving the present tower standing. Creamer features a beautifully
colored though distant image of the square masonry light tower with attached

Maine.” This unusual plate features a large, color image of the
tall granite light tower, boathouse and keeper’s dwellings. The present
lighthouse was constructed between 1852 and 1854, along with a new keeper’s
dwelling. The stone tower is 133 feet high -- the tallest lighthouse in New
England. The plate is a lovely crème color, with gilt decoration around the
flueted border. Not backmarked, dating this before 1900. This large collectible

Beautiful large commemorative spoon bears a detailed engraved image of the Light
House at Pulaski, New York. The spoon is engraved “1900” and
features a highly-detailed engraved image of the striking stone keeper’s
dwelling with the rooftop lantern room. The Selkirk Lighthouse sits at the mouth
of the Salmon River. Originally called the Salmon River Light Station, the
lighthouse was constructed in 1838 and remains today, complete with its original
style early lantern room. The spoon measures 6" long and is in marvelous
overall condition for its age, with surprisingly little surface wear from
decades of polishing. The gold washed bowl is engraved “Pulaski Lighthouse,
NY“ with “1900” on the handle back (rare to have a date engraved.). Nicely
detailed little commemorative piece and an extremely rare and desirable

commemorative trivet or hotplate featuring a one color image of the tall granite
“Minot’s Ledge Light House”. This bright distinctive piece is round and
measures 6 ¼” in diameter and is enhanced by a lightly decorated raised rim.
Trivet is clean, some wear to rim decoration, closed age lines radiating from
glaze defect visible on back only. A detailed, unusual little item for your

c.1900. Attractive, stout creamer, featuring a detailed full color image of the “Light-House,
Biloxi, Miss”. A distinctive piece, featuring a fine, full color
image detailing the tall cast iron light tower, walkway and keeper’s dwelling
perched on the watery point. The Biloxi Lighthouse was one of three Mississippi
Sound Lighthouses authorized in 1847. Cast iron plates were bolted together to
form a metal wrapper around a brick liner. The tower was completed in the spring
of 1848. The creamer is of a classic style, enhanced by a short spout and handle
on top with a very pretty gilded borders and cobalt blue body color. Marked
“Wheelock China, Made in Germany for Biloxi Hardware Co., Biloxi, Miss.
Dresden”. This beautiful collector’s piece measures a full 3 ¾” high x 3
½” wide. This is a wonderful, early commemorative piece, clean and bright,

rare, bright, decorated edged commemorative plate featuring a beautiful clear,
full color hand painted image of the Life Saving
Station, Sheboygan, Wisconsin. One of only a few like this station
that I have had, this attractive plate has a quite detailed image as if from a
painting, of the 1889 Bibb #3 Type life-saving station. This beautiful display
piece measures 6 1/8” in diameter and is enhanced by a petite decorative trim
around the edge. Nice painting quality image makes this a striking piece. Not
marked making this c.1898. Very little if any wear, a striking display piece and

wash bears a detailed engraved image of the “Quonochontaug,
Rhode Island Life Saving Station” on the dish. This finely detailed
little piece shows a close view of the distinctive station with the crew and
boat on the ramp. One boat is pictured in the boat doorway, another at water's
edge and one on the ramp with six figures maneuvering it. The handle is Paye and
Baker's 1900 raised relief Pattern “Daphne”. The back is marked
“STERLING” and the trademark of Simmons & Baker, predecessor of Paye
& Baker. The gold washed bowl is engraved “I.F.L. Dec. 25, 1906 (rare to
have a date engraved.) Quonochontaug”. Measures 5 ¼” long and is in
excellent condition. Nicely detailed little commemorative piece and an extremely
rare and desirable location, commemorating this interesting life saving station.

commemorative urn or sugar bears a detailed b/w image of the Monomoy life savers
standing up, posing as they arrive in their surfboat. Commemorative pieces
featuring Life Saving Service images from the Monomoy area of Cape Cod are
extremely rare and desirable and we have been only able to find a few in our
career. This is certainly one of the nicer pieces yet found. Extremely large urn

Old Light, Lighthouse Point, New Haven, Conn.”. This unusual item
is quite attractive and bears a fine, full color image of the tall old
lighthouse tower and nearby areas on the rocky point. Vase is quite bright and
distinctive, and measures 2 ¾” high by 4” wide and is enhanced by
distinctive ornate handles on each side, and by a bit of a decorative gilt trim

(commemorative dish) One of the largest commemorative dishes or trays, a superb,
bright, white, gilt edged commemorative dish or tray featuring a beautiful
clear, detailed full b/w image of the “Ship Jason,
Wrecked Dec. 5, 1893 Cape Cod”. It was on the dreaded Peaked Hill
Bars that the terrible ocean tragedy, the wreck of the ship Jason, occurred in a
furious winter storm on December 5, 1893. The wreck of the Jason was one of the
most appalling disasters that has ever taken place on the shores of Cape Cod,
twenty-six lives being lost. Of the whole crew, Evans, the ship’s apprentice,
was the only person that managed to reach the shore. Dish features a large image
of the ship wrecked offshore as the life-saving crew rows out to the vessel.
Marked “Made in Germany for O. E. Kelley, Dennisport, Mass.” Piece measures
6 ½” x 9 ¾”, and with a ½” raised edge enhanced by a petite,
decorative gilt border. A very large, pretty display piece. (VG).

This is one of the very few in this form that I have yet found, featuring a
clear, bright image of the octagonal lighthouse tower and adjacent
keeper’s house and whistle house, surrounded by the wooden rail fence.
Quite an attractive set with gilt border decoration, the cup measures 2 ½”
high by 3” in diameter. Saucer measures 5 ¾” in diameter. Not marked,
which dates it before 1898. This is a wonderful, early commemorative set,
beautiful for display and an exceptionally rare form. Clean, bright, near fine.

Most unusual commemorative Victorian hair receiver featuring detailed b/w images of “Scituate Light House of Rebecca and Abigail Bates Heroines of the War of 1812”, and “The Original Old Oaken Bucket [house) Scituate Mass." Although rare today, the hair receiver was a common fixture on the dressing tables of women from Victorian times to the early decades of the 20th century. Its purpose was to save hair culled from the hairbrush and comb, which were used vigorously on a daily basis. The hair could then be stuffed into pincushions or pillows. Such pieces in commemorative china are extremely rare and with lighthouses even more so. Cover is removable, with 1 ½” hole in the top to receive the hair. Piese is enhanced by a gilded trip around the edges. Piece measures 4 ¾” in diameter by 3” high. “Made in Germany for Chas. W. Frye, Scituate, Mass. Light wear to gilding. Extremely rare form.
